Campus Spotlight: Reagan Elementary, the Heartbeat of a Community

The halls of Reagan Elementary are filled with the bustling sounds of parents, students, and staff as they head to the gym for their annual Cinco De Mayo celebration. This is one of many times that the community and the campus come together as a family to celebrate student smartness. In this week’s San Angelo ISD Campus Spotlight, we invite you to discover more about our Reagan Rockets and how Principal Brandy Tyner and team focus on student achievement first and foremost.

One of four of the most historic campuses within San Angelo, Reagan Elementary has been providing San Angelo students with an exceptional educational experience since 1909. This rich history has helped the team at Reagan to develop a shared vision across the campus of creating lifelong learners through positive relationships. That vision is evident through the campus motto of “Once a Reagan Rocket, Always a Reagan Rocket” which holds on to family values and the inclusion of the community within the school walls. Because of this, the family culture built at Reagan is one that works together with the community, school, and their families to do whatever to ensure student success.

“I am proud to be a Reagan Rocket and be a part of this wonderful community,” said Principal Tyner. “All of our students, staff, and community members make this a beautiful place to be.”

Returning this year after a brief hiatus due to COVID-19, Reagan students, staff and family members come together annually for their Christmas and Cinco De Mayo celebrations. The Christmas celebration gives families the opportunity to visit their students' campus, see what their students have been learning lately, and take a bus ride as the Reagan family to see the Tour of Lights during the Concho Christmas Celebration. The annual Cinco De Mayo celebration is the highlight of many Rockets students and staff's year. The day celebration starts in the gym with a fun, and festive pep rally where family members and students dress up for the occasion and come together for family fellowship. During the pep rally, students from all grade levels perform a dance. After the pep rally, students and their families come together for a meal in their classroom and participate in carnival games.

Reagan Elementary is also home to seven Functional Academics Classrooms which are self-contained Special Education classrooms. While these students have a variety of needs, the Reagan team works to grow their skills, meet their needs, and build and maintain relationships which last far beyond their time in the classroom at Reagan.

Mrs. Tyner and team express sincere gratitude to community partners who consistently support the school in a multitude of ways including Immanuel Baptist Church who support the campus in a variety of ways.

We hope you enjoyed this SAISD Campus Spotlight on Reagan Elementary. We wish our Reagan Rockets, Mrs. Tyner, and her team a wonderful 2021-2022 school year, and the fulfillment of, and progress toward, growing hopes and dreams!
