D.E.S.K. Donates Over $60,000 for School Supplies

The D.E.S.K. organization, now in its 16th year, has presented SAISD with funds for the 2020-2021 school year in the amount of $60,023.74.

D.E.S.K., which stands for Donate Educational Supplies to Kids, was founded in 2004 by local resident Eric Wilson, who identified an unmet need to assist SAISD students in obtaining school supplies. Wilson formed a board of concerned Concho Valley community members who set out to raise funds to meet this need. Since then, the organization has raised a total of $780,555.09 for the purpose of helping those in the school district who are unable to purchase supplies for the school year.

Each campus in the district receives a percentage of the total amount of money raised based on the number of students on that campus who receive assistance through the free and reduced meal program. Campuses were given their funds earlier last month so that supplies could be purchased before the school year began. Representatives from the D.E.S.K. organization were honored with a recognition at the school board meeting on September 21.

D.E.S.K. is comprised of a group of local businesses who volunteer in fundraising efforts. Business sponsors include McDonalds, 1st Community Federal Credit Union, Townsquare Media, San Angelo Standard Times, KLST, Dr. Pepper, Sam's Club, and CHS Key Club.

San Angelo ISD extends sincere appreciation to the D.E.S.K. Board for their dedication, year after year, in helping SAISD students receive  the supplies they need to be confident and to be on a path to succeed.
